What added to the sense of realism
was director Charles Bail's decision
for principle cast to do most of their
own on-camera driving.
The NY start through city streets was actual
captured audio of those screen cars
including the Camero/Ferrari/Cobra
tunnel blast scene. Those distant roaring
engines heard by worker and pedestrian
actors was the real deal, not post production
folly added for effect.
Films like Gumball Rally, Gone In 60 Seconds,
Vanishing Point, Bullitt, etc, were special because
the action was all analog, no CGI garbage.
