The adapter mounts with the oil pressure port towards the front of the block.
What is equally important, is the fact that the adapter must be modified to enlarge the size of the oil pump out port interface. When you buy a stock Ford oil filter housing gasket and place it on the adapter, you'll see what I mean. For more info on that, visit this old link:
