Default Heat issues

I've had my cobra on the road for a few months with hardly any time to work on it lately. Today I went to take it out and it wouldn't idle so I raised the idle. I took it out and it didn't feel right when I let off the throttle it would stay at 1200 rpm and then after about 20 seconds drop down to idle. I only drove it about 10 minutes and then shut it off. The engine was running on after I shut it off. When I got out I noticed the right side of the body was smoking. There was so much heat it started melting the body. I'm not sure if I have too much advance in the distributor, the fuel was boiling, or carb was dumping too much fuel or an other issue I'm missing any thoughts would be appreciated. The engine temp stays at 190 it was not overheating. The engine is a 408 with cast rhs heads and mechanical advance. Holley 780 carb. Thanks Richie
