I had a WC T5 backing up 450/500 383 SBC stroker in my Cobra for 18+ years of almost daily spirited driving. When I first bought the car and rebuilt it, the next plan was always to upgrade to a Tremec/FE combo.
I drove the crap out of it fully expecting the T5 to fail, but it never did; and the combination worked so well and gave me so much satisfaction that the FE upgrade with 100% + importation duties and tariffs was simply not justifiable. In a heavier car, I'm sure that little T5 would've eventually shat itself, but in the lightweight Cobra, it was in its element. Still going strong today.
EDIT - I also looked into the G Force upgrade, but that never happened either.
