There is much wisdom here. For the price of the kit, power train, paint and wheels/tires (which many don't include) you'll be at 60K more or less. For that you can get an already sorted out car and begin driving.
If the "some assembly required" part is what you want there are others that fit the bill that won't be as complicated.
