Cobras used leather straps with a loop on each end. One loop was used to attach the forward end to the door frame like a slip knot.

Intended to be used to pull the latch lever straight forward, it was common for users to push or pull the strap downward to open the door or jerk the strap to close the door. Putting pressure down on the door while closing can misalign the latch on the door frame and the strike on the chassis enough to damage the mechanisms over time. Over time doors could sag and drag the B (rear) pillar. Many original cars owners did away with the straps. I tried an original strap from another Cobra on our black car for a few minutes and decided it was a bad idea and removed it.
