That's the TBN (total base number). Easy to compare and see how the detergents are being consumed. But that brings up another topic. Did you know that changing your
oil too often will actually
increase the wear on your engine? Tribochemistry. The interaction between the anti-wear additives and detergents creates an upswing in initial wear. You'll win a few barroom bets on that one.
