I had the same "binding" problem when I switched to the Hurst stick. I used the leather boot from Cobra Valley and saved the rubber boot and Mustang reverse shifter and mount for later use if I want to switch back. Shifts a lot faster and smoother with the Hurst....although you don't have the originality look. I prefer the smoother shift.

I installed the shifter boot from Cobra Valley and couldn’t be happier. Shifts much smoother, looks great and doesn’t kick out of gear in 2nd and 4th like it did with the rubber boot.
