A friend of mine has a mid-80's AC/Autokraft, turnkey from England with a 302 and 5 speed. He worked with a local Cobra/Mustang shop to ensure that his 302 was smog compliant. It was not difficult. Needed FI and an a stock ECU, etc... You might want to investigate what it would take to be smog compliant before giving up. At least you'll know what the light at the end of the tunnel is :-))
