I bought a Canton pan last week. They suggested filling the block with the recommended pan capacity and give it time to settle. Do not turn it over, as oil will enter the rest of your lines etc. Then re-index your dipstick based upon this new "full level". Once I pulled it out I scribed a lineon the back of my stock dipstick. I then used my Dremel to give it a little more definition. Afterward, I added another 1.5 quarts to fill the rest of the lines, filter etc. and primed the engine through the distributor hole with a priming tool and drill. Then I started the engine and re-checked my level.

-Hope it helps.
