If you can get within a half quart or so of what optimal fill level is you will be doing an excellent job. That oil fog I was speking of that the rotating assembly creates in the crankcase is a variable number. At idle it is very small, at 6000 rpm it is noticeably bigger. This particular job assignment on engines like we use is a lot like horseshoes and hand grenades. All you've got to be is close. If it were a dry sump system you could be much more precise. Wet sump systems have much greater latitude between too little and too much
