I've met plenty of "adult" owners that fall into this same category.
Just because you can write checks has no bearing on your ability to drive...anything.
But I believe that most people can learn to drive a Cobra or whatever, at least to the point that they aren't too dangerous. A competent and patient coach/instructor, often not a husband or parent, can guide the new driver to reasonable levels of competence.
