That's how it's designed. If you've never done an FE intake, I'd encourage you to do a bit of reading about how to do it. For example, you need to install the distributor to help locate the manifold before you bolt it down. Also, go easy on the sealant. Be aware that the
oil drainback passages from the heads to the valley intersect the corner head bolt holes and too much sealant on the gasket in this area could obstruct the passages.
