This site does not use "https". Traffic is not encrypted. It does not have a SSL (or now, TLS) certificate. This version of the forum software is too old to integrate link security.
Do not use the password you use here anywhere else since it is transmitted as clear text. This is particularly true when accessing the site via "open wifi" like you get when you connect to the wifi at your local restaurant.
Many info sites have not been roped into the SSL madness. It's really mostly don't care unless you're doing private or financial stuff... Several of the car sites, this being one, haven't upgraded.
Some browsers will complain when you open a non-https site. Others will even block it altogether until you override it manually.
