I guess I should state that when I unhooked the vacume advance, I merely capped off the vacume advance ports with rubber plugs. I marked the damper pulley at 34 degrees and set the timing just a hair under with the engine running at 3000 rpm. I currently have the carb set about 25% richer than std. in both cruise and power modes. With this carb setting, and the duraspark set at 12 degrees initial with the vacume advance hooked up (this was the way I had it before I had to tear the motor down due to improper balancing) I didn't have any water temp or exhaust temp problems. I should also note that my currentl water temps are high only it the city. On the freeway, it stays around 175 degrees. I have a 165 degree thermostat. I am going to hood up the vacume advance again and set total advance at about 32 degrees now, and set the carb back to about 16% richer than std. We'll see what this does.

Thanks for the input.
