There was a multi-part article in Street Rodder magazine in 1995 that covered some basic details on the identification, dimensions, teardown, rebuilding and assembly of the various Jag rears. Part 2 of that article [April 1995 issue] stated that while a change in the housing in 1987 prohibits swapping of some external parts from the later units with the earlier ones, "...The Dana 44 (Spicer) gear arrangement, using standard American nuts and bolts, remains unchanged. This is the same Dana 44 used in GM four wheel drive trucks since the early Sixties and 20 other manufacturers world wide."
I have already scanned and emailed this article series to several people who asked about it a while ago and can send it out to anyone else who might want to see it-let me know by email. I just scanned the pages as .jpg image files and, while I tried to keep the file size small but readable, anyone wanting it would receive it more conveniently via a cable or other high-speed connection.
The article doesn't have sufficient detail to serve as a primary spec resource for a rebuild, but I thought it had an abundance of useful info.
