I think the question should be what are you going to pull it with?
If it's a 1/2 ton p/u with standard wheel base then I think 20' is about as long as you want to go, other wise you could have problems when windy.
The longer the wheel base the better.

I have a 03' Navigator and a 20' is all I'm doing, I would like a 24' but I'm not buying another vehicle just for the trailer.
