When I was building my cobra I had exactly the same thoughts. Since I was planning to install an
oil cooler I figured some sort of "preluber" would be a great idea to pressurize the system prior to firing the beast up. I ended up using a Preluber by Engine Lubrication Systems in Frazer, PA. If interested, here is the link:

It is kinda noisy but only runs for 25 seconds before shutting off. The Preluber draws
oil directly out of the
oil pan so I plumbed the preluber hoses into the oil cooler return line to insure that any oil would pass through the filter before entering the engine. This system will turn back on and run up to five minutes after you shut the engine down to keep hot oil from "coking" on the inside of the cylinder heads and block. I also like this system because when I do an oil change I energize the preluber and it helps clear out the dirty oil from the cooler and lines so I get a more thorough oil change.
