Was reading an interesting thread over on the American LeMans Series site.

The highest speed achieved by any car during an actual race (vs. practice/qualifying) was by the Group C WM Peugeot in 1988 at LeMans - 252 mph on the Mulsanne Straight (before it's 4-mile length was neutered by the chicanes in 1990). The Peugeot made ~900 hp, had 1100 lbs. of downforce and 890 lbs. of drag at 250 mph., with a cd of .26.

The previous record was set in 1971 by a Gulf/Porsche 917 Lange-Heck (long-tail) at 246 mph, again on the Mulsanne. The Porsche had ~600 hp, and 250 lbs. downforce and 700 lbs. drag at 240.

Don't have much to do with Cobra speeds, but interesting, anyway.
