Roscoe,

I just went out and looked at mine as I also didn't put a heater in and the upper one is the bypass. I just put a screw in plug in the intake manifold and one of the rubber caps with a clamp on the lower outlet in the water pump. I built mine in 1997 and it has been that way ever since with no problem. I have a flowkooler high volume aluminum pump but it has the same configuration as yours does.
