Any "race type" fuel pump needs a regulaor before the carb(s) to keep the pressure stable, reguardless of what's stamped on the box. I still like mechanical pumps because their lifespan is longer so they don't die as often and leave you stuck on the side of the road.

In a fit of 16 year old genius, I looked down through the carb while cranking it to see if fuel was flowing, and it was. Flowing straight up in a vapor cloud, around my head, on fire.
