Ren Man: About using "stiffer" (higher rate) Z28 springs on a HiPo head, they are not needed. Too stiff on the valve spring springs and the result is undue wear and wasted power. I say not needed because my hp289 with stock springs goes to 8,000 rpm and closes the 1.94" intakes with a 0.510" lift cam. As for "hesitation", I'm not sure what you mean. All a valve spring has to do is keep the slack out of a valve train; lifter on the lobe, pushrod on the lifer, rocker arm against the pushrod and so on.

Good luck with your small block. A big blocks with gobs of torque is nice at the bottom end, but a small block that pulls strong up into the 7,000 rpm range is sweet.
