CA registration revisited
I got a 3 page letter today from a lawyer at a firm in southern CA "re: California Department of Motor Vehicle Construction Questionnaire."_ It starts off
"Dear Superformance Owner:
_ _ _ _ You may have recently received correspondence from the California Department of Motor Vehicles ("DMV") stating that the Certificate of Title for your Superformance Replica ("Replica") was cancelled because the title did not properly describe the Replica._ Included within the DMV correspondence is a Vehicle Construction Questionnaire ("Questionnaire") which purportedly pertains to the construction of your Replica...............................
..................I was informed there was a question of whether or not my Superformance Replica met the requirements of a specially constructed vehicle under the California Vehicle Code................"
The main thrust of this letter seems to be that a Superformance may not be considered a specially constructed vehicle in Ca, and therefore not eligible for registration in the state.
I don't know what, if anything, to do about this._ I received this letter out of the blue, and I haven't received anything (yet) from the DMV._ I don't know whether to follow up with the lawyer/firm, to check with DMV, or to just sit tight and see if anything else happens._ The letter didn't ask for a response, I'm not sure if it was an FYI thing from another SPF owner, or what._ I am a little curious as to his source of my name and address._ DMV records, or a Superformance owner list, etc???
I registered my car in 02 under SB100, jumped through all the hoops, and paid tax on the full amount spent to put the car on the road (THAT felt like a wax job)._ I went to DMV in november and was able to renew with no problems, other than a healthy fee.
Any thoughts from the peanut gallery_ ??
