I saw the same show and they said something about getting a maximum of 1300 HP from a 4.6L DOHC. They also mentionned problems with the bottom end when you try to get those kind of numbers. They were showing a blower setup with a large throttle body, a custom made plenum, etc, etc.
I had a '97 Mustang Cobra 4.6L DOHC, absolutely stock. It went OK but not much bottom end torque. I assume that type of motor really likes to rev. It would be fun to try one that was really healthy and had no rev limiter.
