There is no real difference in the truck or car engines. Ford stopped putting them in cars, but contiued putting them in trucks for about 10 years longer. The later versions that came on the trucks have smaller heads than some of the early to mid 70's cars. Most folks use aftermarket aluminum anyway. There is a slight difference in deck height on early vs. later blocks.
If you replace the rod bolts with something like ARP, the stock bottom end will support a lot of HP.
