As it happens.. Don Borders (Image auto works) built my car for himself back in 1988.. Thats like 1000 dog years in this business and I always wanted to meet him (I'm the 4th owner) I had spoken to him briefly over the past year getting info. on my car he had no obligation to provide and he was always busy but very gracious taking the time to help me as he could (he hadn't owned this car for 9 years..)

During those talks he always told me to stop by if I were ever in his neighborhood, but his neighborhood is 700 miles away.. As it happens the Saturday after Thanksgiving I was in Palm Desert and I took him up on his offer.. Unannounced..

The Image Auto Works shop is Immaculate. The work areas are filled with beautiful Cobras in various stages of completion all of which were show quality. Don showed me his shop, paint booth and garage area.. It was all first rate.. None of this he expected to do, nor did he need to do.. I wasn't there to drop 30k on a kit or spend 3k on a set of wheels.. I did buy a slave cylinder.. $40. BFD... Actually one he was going to put on another car.. He didn't need to sell it to me, but he did.. It was more than I could have hoped for.. I have seen some nice garage areas in NASCAR, F1 and CART.. But his was among my favorite..

I would be hard pressed if you were to ask me whether I wanted to spend a day geting paid to wrench in any of those or work for free at Image Auto works which I would choose.. I think I would choose the latter..
