Having owned and worked on sailboats for 20 yrs I've encountered my share of rough fibreglas--resin works ok, but the best results I've gotten is by using the West Sytem for working with and finishing 'glass--
You can find info on their website or at most marine suppliers or even body shops that specialize in fibreglas repair.

Have never tried BnB's idea, curious as to how well it holds up.
