Having a big car/truck/SUV does not make it safer. Having a bigger vehicle than the other car in the wreck makes it safer. If we all drive 6000 pound trucks, we'll be no safer than if we all drive 3400 pound sedans. The only advantage comes when a big car and a little car collide, then you have an advantage/disadvantage depending on which vehicle you are in. So should we all get 6000 pound SUV's, then next year 7000 pound SUV's and keep going bigger and bigger?

I am not advocating banning SUV's or anything like that, this is America, if you want it, more power to you, banning anything is un-American.

I do think it is ludicrous that just about everybody thinks they need a giant truck nowadays. But I guess that's how you prove to the world what a "rugged individual" you are as you drive to the shopping mall.
