They must've gold plated the pistons or something.
I've got the Shelby block, a Velasco crank (nothing cheap about that), Shelby front cover and manifold, worked Eldebrock heads, 6AL, an 850HP, Aviad pan, expensive stuff all through the insides, and it looks like it'll come out around $23-24K, and that's including clutch and an aluminum flywheel, and labor.
Ain't cheap--but cheaper than reports you've gotten.
