It all depends. A lot of machine shops sponser race cars, their engines will always go to the front of the line so they can get out by friday. If the shop gets a fleet service contract to do a dozen forklift motors or diesels that is a bigger paycheck than your little motor. So it all depends. About 10 years ago, I had a block I needed a hone job done on. I take it to the machine shop and tell him I need it right away. He says, "What you want me to drop everything else and do your block right now?"
I said "Yes, that is exactly what I want." For a couple of dollars more, he had my block done same day, and it was done nice. Talk to your machine shop, see if they can bump you up on the list, but it might cost ya a little more.
