I would suggest that you first consider "form" over "function", or "what looks 'real' " vs. what works safely.
I purchased a pre-owned car, and the location of my mirror sucks. If it wasn't for the hole left in the fender after the mirror was removed, I'd make the change for something that works in a New York minute.
Pick out a mirror that looks like it will "see" what you want to see, then sit in the car and have someone move it around until you find a spot that works for you. Put it there
