STG, Jeff Frigo:

We have seen the Angliss letter before. It states that Angliss was "advised by the Shelby American Automobile Club" that Carroll Shelby was contemplating the completion of a run of Cobras begun in the 60's. Do you understand my point? That letter was responding to something said or written by SAAC, not Shelby himself.

The press release from Angliss/Ford/Shelby was the result of an ongoing pissing match between Shelby and Angliss as to who had the rights to what. It states that "No part of these vehicles (continuation Cobras) contains materials supplied by AC Cars, and Mr. Shelby notes that he has never so claimed." Also, it states "The purpose of this press release is to provide written factual information to the press as agreed between Carroll Shelby and Brian Angliss in an attempt to avoid further misunderstanding..." Sounds to me like the story was incorrect all along, or at least a misinformed press reporting something other than the facts. That's how urban legends get started.

As I stated in my original question, where does it say that CARROLL SHELBY CLAIMS TO HAVE FOUND THESE FRAMES? Can someone post a copy of the LA Times article? It's my understanding that the LA Times article started the whole thing. Of course, we have all seen when the press got something wrong. It's not too much of a stretch to imagine a reporter hearing about the unused serial numbers for the unbuilt comp cars and incorrectly assuming there were frames... I still have not seen anything other than second-hand evidence that Shelby made the claim. And the press release posted surely doesn't support the claim that Shelby did say it. It expressly states that HE DID NOT SAY IT. I can't claim it doesn't exist, but I sure haven't seen it. I'm not trying to be difficult here, guys. I REALLY want to see the source that quotes Mr. Shelby himself.
