Default Hobbie's gone wild!

Mostly stock parts, which is fine, it'll have plenty power and be the "right" motor. I'd keep it mild, which means the 390 heads will be fine. Two fours are over kill, but wouldn't they look great! Won't need the headers.

So what do you get for 2K more for the long block?

Heads, good, BIG chunck of the 2K right there!
Exhaust manifold, no $$$ to speak of.
Intake manifold, sounds "original", $$$ maybe $500?
Rebuild two old carbs and when done, questionable reliability?

BUY single carb intake and ONE new carb? $$$??
Benefit would be max reliability! Add one turkey pan and your still looking "correct"!

It's going to be tough to beat the $2K window if you have to buy heads, pushrods, rockers, intake and carb.

I'd go for the Long Block and CONSIDER replacing the intake with a single carb unit and one new carb.

That long block DOES come with pushrods and rocker assembly I hope. Those "little" items can add up real quick! Get EVERYTHING you can for that motor! Brakets, motor mounts, scrounge a few parts off the bench to "throw in" with the deal. Flywheel? Clutch? Get it ALL. "Little things" will kill you later!
