If you are can buy that engine for that amount and it is what has been said so far. BUY IT. Don't worry about the pistons, rods and crank. It won't matter. Sell the guts on eBay, keep the block.

Have George build it for you slowly at your pace with parts that are new and predictable.
That is too valuable a block to take a chance that previous owner/machine xhop did everything exactly like they were supposed to.

You already had one bad experience with a poorly built engine, this one is too good a block to screw up.

Run the 390 until this one is put together from scratch. that is my suggestion.
