You know it could be as simple as a Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve, a PCV. In other words there MUST be someway to relieve the internal pressure in the motor or oil WILL be forced out. Road Draft tube (as in the 40's and 50's) valve cover vents, SOMETHING!

All though, oil out the side pipes sounds very bad indeed and probably NOT something a PCV valve would address. Engine oil leak? Yeah, PCV will help there!
