Actually, there will usually be a salvage value placed on the wrecked vehicle. You are generally allowed to purchase the car for that salvage value. Your settlement amount will be reduced by that amount. Your title however, will forever reflect that the car was at one time "totalled". Not a great selling point if your so inclined.
