I had the same problem too. Brass is a great conductor and the proximity of my pulg wires to the tank was causing one of them to arc to the tank.

I resolved it by taking a pry bar and gently bending the tank forward enough to clear the distributor.

Be careful if you do this as you can crack the thermostat housing on your intake if you get too agressive.

Note also that if you move the tank forward with a spacer don't forget that the rake of the hood gets greater in that area and you can have clearance issues.
