SCCA required that the carb be available to "all competitors" to be legal for Trans-Am however they never did approve it for competition in Trans-Am. Some did run it in Formula A on Boss 302s and Ford hoped it would catch on in drag racing but it didn't happen. As recently as a few years ago I tracked down some NOS carb rebuild kits for a guy in the Northwest that has one on a street Boss. And yes, they do have an idle circuit and can be street driven.
