Mike,

Put a relay on it ,30a and wire it to trigger off the stater terminal of the alternator. The stater terminal will always be hot when the alternater is charging. When the engine is off the waterpump will be off it, will not run even if the ignition is on. Your amp gauge will indicate if you have a problem, no need for a light. makes a very simple and clean installation.
