I had 11.5 compression on my 427 with iron heads. The engine blew the headgasket twice and needed important engine repair . Now I have aluminum heads (Dove F5) with 9.5 compression.
The better flow and cooler running of the aluminum heads more than makes up the horsepower lost to compression. Engine is more dependable now, runs cool and has great torque , which is what makes driving fun , especially if you prefer windy mountain roads to straight highways.
Dont get mislead by all the goodies they want to sell you. In the 400-500 HP range you will hardly notice a 35 hp difference unless you race with your car.
