I have had a Pace,United Expressline,Haulmark, and a Classic. The Classic was the nicer unit but priced that way as well. The pace was the least expensive but did not hold up very well. The United was the best bang for the buck.
As far as security goes just make sure you don't get the RV style latch on the side entry door they are very easy to open without a key.
Your right an all aluminum trailer is much more expensive than what you want to spend. They are all aluminum skin so the screws will be your rust nightmare.
Torsion axles, because they do not use leaf springs, keep the trailer lower to the groung and reduce sway and wind drag. This will also help loading a low riding car.
Towing any trailer with a SUV requires a good weight dist. hitch assy. and an anti sway control. This will make for a comfortable safe tow you enjoy instead of arriving at your destination with white knuckles.
