You can still get the process started. Take all your paper work down to the DMV. Pay your fees and get a temporary registration. Then go to the CHP and have it inspected. Then you're all set for January. Once your temp registration is up, just go back to the DMV and get another. That’s what I did. I picked up my SPF on Oct. 1st of last year. Finally got my plates yesterday.
