Default LaMans gas cap help

Comparing the assembly manual with the parts I have you would think they were from two different kits. The manual shows the filler & mounting flange (which I have)and an adapter plate with a gasket top & bottom (which I DON'T have) and the "reducer tube" (which is nothing like the one I have). The "reducer tube I have is a circular flat plate with a 1/2" & 1-1/2" tubes welded to it.
Now my questions are:
What is this "adapter plate" made of & how thick is it??
What are the gaskets made of (and possibly where I can get the material to make them)??
Is the assembly of the parts I have different than what is shown in the manual? i.e. Do I have to use the adapter plate with two gaskets?
