I agree, and I do plan to test it...(did you visit that Engine ID site, link above?)
My understanding is that the stamp in the water jacket is fairly definitive. Have you (or anyone else) ever seen one that had, say, a 352 in the jacket but really was a 390, 428?
Confusing part is that the 352, 390, and 428 share the following casting number: C6ME-A.
