Default Napa "Gourmet" Snake Run 9/6 & 7

9/7/03
Meet at Gordon's Cafe on Washington St. at Madison in Yountville between 9 and 10 AM. There is a gas station across the street.
We will depart for our first leg of the trip at 11 AM.

Take Madison east to Yount, left to Yountville Crossroad. East to end, Silverado Trail. Turn left and take Silverado Trail North 5.7 miles to Sage Canyon Rd (128E). Rurn right. Follow around Lake Hennesay for 4.2 miles to Chiles Pope Valley Rd. turn left.

Follow Chiles Pope Valley for about 13 miles. You will come to a Y in the road, there is a service station there that has a great Rattlesnake collection in a bathtub in the garage. Ask to see it! Turn left onto Howell Mountain Rd. Follow that for about 4.5 winding miles. You will come to College Ave in Angwin. There is a Chevron station in town if you need gas. Howell Mountain Rd. becomes Deer Park Rd. Continue to Silverado Trail, about 6.3 miles. Turn right onto Silverado Trail toward Calistoga.

Take Silverado Trail for about 8 miles to the town of Calistoga. At 5.4 miles on your left is the famous Three Palms Vineyard that Duckhorn Vineyards bottles. As we roar through Calistoga we will set off alarms right and left!!

At junction 128/Hwy 29 turn left toward Napa onto Hwy 29. There is a Union 76 station on the corner.

We will follow Hwy 29 for about 9 miles. You will pass Greystone, The Culinary Institute of America, on your right followed by Berringer and the town of St. Helena. There is an Exxon station on the left. Less than one mile ahead on the right is our lunch destination, Taylor's Refresher. Bring an appetite!!

After lunch we will travel south on Hwy 29 about 10 miles to Redwood Rd. Turn right and travel about 4 to 5 miles to Mt. Veeder Rd and turn right. This is a great road through about 11 miles of Redwoods. At Oakville Grade we will turn right and come into one of the best views of the valley anywhere. Back to Hwy 29. Turn right and follow into Yountville. If you want, stop at Compadres for live music and something cool to drink.

We hope to see lots of Presidents and Co-pilots for a leisurely ride through the beautiful wine country! See you in Yountville.
