Tom, that Y-Block sounds pretty typical of those days.Dirt track racing was the only racing I ever saw until about '64 or so. I didn't know you could have real fun without grit in your eyes, nose and mouth. Didn't take the Chevy guys long to figure it out though. By 1958 Parnelli Jones and the Fike Plumbing Chevy was rapidly making the IMCA Offies obsolete. If I had known what he would accomplish later later, I would have been even more excited to have helped push his sprint onto the trailer after a race. Back then though, it was all pretty low key compared to today. The trailer was an open job with a tire rack on the front, Parnelli was *****ing about worn valve seals that they couldn't afford to replace, and the hauler was a '54 Ford pickup
