argo,
IMO: Supply both new and used, Demand, and Time-of-Year seems to dictate the "SOLD" price; especially for the more common / popular makes - including SPFs.
e.g. 1994 Vipers. As soon as they came out, movie stars were paying 275K to 500K to be one of the first to own one. Last year they were getting soft, Mid 30K range on an RT/10. Now that the old body style is not being made any more, and the new one is fairly expensive, the price sort of stabilized a bit and in some cases started going back up. Is it going up or down, or what?. Hard to say. Weird. Same thing seemed to happen with early version SPFs, then the newer/upgraded ones came out, and the used price was up again for a while. Advertised price is one thing, ACTUAL selling price is another. Its hard to tell with some of these cars unless you know for fact what they really sold for.
I still think an SPF on average is a better used resale / return-on-investment than other cars like Vettes, Vipers, BMWs, Porsches, etc. In the Cobra realm, SPFs hold their value really well - even with today's economy. I wouldn't be worried about fads, or new entries. The SPF is a good car and a great value no matter what, and buyers seem to know that. Keep in mind, the production numbers on these cars are much less than mainstream cars.
