Double checked the drive belt, while it was a little loose and did require a little tightening up, it still did not solve the problem. I then did check the connections as you recommended with a VOM.

While I can't determine that the VOM readings (at both the points you recommended) is the same as the amp gauge since the gauge is jumping around so much. I am getting steady readings on the VOM. Therefore, I guess what you will now tell me is that it is the gauge.

Anything else I should try before changing the amp gauge.
