Prior to the SB100 method, out of state cars are subject to BAR inspection, $300 out of state fee, and a smog-check on the tredmill if the model year of the vehicle is after 1973; regardless if it is special construction or reconstructed. The BAR would follow the guidelines of the smog equipment for the model year of the engine itself. e.g. If the engine type/make called for a 4-barrel carb, PCV device, this would still be the case and they would be checking to see the vehichle would still pass the tailpipe test (looking for "gross polluters"). Now that SB100 and SB1578 are available, I wonder what will happen if it does not pass the physical inpsection or tailpipe test requirements?....Maybe 1578 would apply since its already been registered. Please let us know how it works out.
