If you follow the evolution of the 260/289/302 you can pretty much adapt any of the flat tappet (non Roller) cams that were used throughout the years. The heads on the 260 had small valves and were quickly updated when the 289 cam on scene as did a revamping of the combustion chambers. However the cams are interchangeable but the firing order changed for later 302's.
Crane makes their version (as do others) of the 289 Hipo cam which is a very streetable cam with a fair amount of RPM potential. If you are using the stock style (OEM Ford) you will want to change to an adjustable rocker with a screw in type stud. Stick with a 10:1 compression, 600 CFM/650 carb and good exhaust and you will be happy.
Jack 21 has a good point however. Unless you are after duplicating or maintaining originality.
